HIFIVE – Hastings Interfaith Food Initiative Volunteer Effort

“H.I.F.I.V.E.” or “Hastings Interfaith Food Initiative Volunteer Effort”, is an Eagle Scout Service Project that is entirely for the benefit of the Hastings Food Pantry.

Servicing nearly 40 families every week, the Hastings Food Pantry relies heavily on food donations from the community to feed those in need. Recently, however, its inventory has been drastically low, which is why I’ve considered it to be a worthy beneficiary of my Eagle Scout Service Project.

My project is an interfaith food drive. Donation bins are placed in the main lobby of several religious congregations around town, including Temple Beth Shalom, the Grace Episcopal Church, the Chinese Community Church of Westchester, the Trinity Rivertowns Church, the First Reformed Church, and the North Yonkers Community Church. There is also a donation bin placed near the front entrance of the local grocery store, Foodtown.

These bins will remain in these lobbies for a duration of six months (mid-September 2016 through mid-March 2017) and deliveries to the Hastings Food Pantry will be made twice a month, or as necessary. Appropriate donation items include dry goods, such as pasta, cereal and rice, as well as canned items such as soups and tuna fish. Toiletries, such as shampoo, toothpaste and soap, are also accepted with any food donation.

Please think of your fellow neighbor when food shopping, and contribute generously to this worthy cause!

Thank you for your generosity,
